One of the hazards of being a minister and taking public transportation is that the person sitting next to you, upon learning your profession, will compulsively tell you why he or she is spiritual not religious.
What does it mean to be spiritual? Religious? Are they really different?
Today we will explore these and related questions.
Poverty, Economics and Dr. King

Towards the end of his tragically brief life, Dr. King had begun to transition his focus away from segregation and towards the plight of the poor. Today Rev. Dave will explore the financial realities of today’s poor through the filter of Dr. King’s economic theology.

Pagan and Other Origins of Christmas

Last month Rev. Dave explored the myths surrounding Thanksgiving. This month he’ll take a look at pagan and other progenitors of Christmas. Spoiler alert: they are not all as innocent as Santa Claus and the Christmas tree… some non-pagan, early Christian ones are horrifyingly anti-Semitic and, in some cases, barbaric.

Unfortunately our speaker for today, Sunday, December 8th, needed to postpone his time with us because of the weather. Eagle Reporter Ron Devlin lives in Schuylkill County and the traveling becomes quickly treacherous there. Emily Quarles-Mowrer has graciously agreed to provide a sermon which touches on some well-known Holiday music. Lisa Jokiel will assist.
