President’s Message — September 2022

“By all the lovely tokens, September days are here, with summers best of weather and autumn’s best of cheer.” ~ Helen Hunt Jackson

While we are transitioning from the lazy days of summer to the more energetic (and sometimes frenetic) days of autumn, we continue to be busy here at the fellowship.

Our garden continues to flourish with the harvested crops being donated to the Pottstown Cluster. Unfortunately, the poison ivy is also flourishing (just ask Mary Ryan). So many thanks go out to the Garden Committee for tending to the crops and attempting to keep “those other plants” at bay.

Since we have been able to spend more time in our fellowship, Judy McDonald and I met to revisit the report and the safety recommendations that the PA State Police made prior to the pandemic. We are currently prioritizing the recommendations and creating a “Wish List” of things that we would like to invest in. This will then go to the board to determine what we can move forward with based on available funds.

The Technology Committee (aka Rick Duske) has been busy training others to help with the technology that we use during Sunday Services. Many thanks to those who volunteered. If you have any interest in learning and assisting on Sundays, please let Rick know.

Thanks go out to Miranda Van Horn who led a UU 102 class, which is simply the history of the UUFP. In addition to prospective members, many current members also attended to enhance their knowledge of the story of our fellowship. It is hard to believe that the UUFP has been in existence for 55 years. We will be celebrating this anniversary as well as honoring the life of Peggy Jones, a founding member who passed away last year at a party to be held in October. Stay tuned for further information.

I hope that everyone’s Summer vacations were enjoyable, and I look forward to a great Autumn at the UUFP.

In gratitude, Linda
